Dom Howson believes the ‘best is yet to come’ from one of Sheffield Wednesday’s summer signings.
Sheffield Wednesday‘s summer transfer business was rather hit and miss.
The Owls made 16 signings following their promotion to the Championship – three for a fee, four more for nothing and a whopping nine players on loan.
The likes of James Beadle, Di’Shon Bernard and Pol Valentin have proven themselves to be really effective signings, while the likes of Jeff Hendrick, Ashley Fletcher and Reece James will be quickly forgotten.
A number of their summer arrivals have made a hugely positive impact on the Owls’ chances of avoiding relegation, and one that has gradually grown into Championship football is Anthony Musaba.
The Dutchman is Wednesday’s top scorer in all competitions, with eight goals and five assists in 44 games.
He only managed one goal in his first 16 appearances for the club, but he has shown real flashes of promise and his goal contributions have now tallied up and really helped Wednesday give themselves a fighting chance at staying up.
Musaba now has four goal contributions in his last five matches, and can go down as a success if he helps his side confirm safety this weekend.
Anthony Musaba needs to be ‘more consistent’
Journalist Dom Howson believes the best is yet to come with the 23-year-old though, while he claims he ‘still needs to be more consistent’.
Writing on X, Howson said: “Sheffield Wednesday’s leading marksman for the 2023/24 season? Anthony Musaba.
“Still needs to be more consistent. Can flatter to deceive at times. But overall, AM can be pleased with his first year at S6. Only 23. Best is yet to come.”
The Dutchman has bags of potential
Not only is he Wednesday’s top scorer, Musaba also has the second-most shots in the squad (47), the most successful dribbles (55) and has blocked the second most passes (34).
Given that he only turned 23 years old in December and hasn’t played senior football at a very high standard, Musaba is undeniably a very promising player at Championship level.
It is completely understandable that he took a while to settle into life in England, but Danny Rohl has helped him develop and become a much better player, so there is no reason why he can’t take it up a notch next season.
