Danny Rohl has explained the key details of Ian Poveda’s loan switch to Sheffield Wednesday.
Ian Poveda wasn’t linked with a move until Sheffield Wednesday, while he was initially expected to join the club on a permanent deal.
The Colombian, who had made only one start in the Championship this term, quickly made his way from Leeds to Sheffield to wrap up a deal.
However, it was soon confirmed that Poveda would instead join on a loan deal until the end of the season – much to the fans’ frustration.
When asked why there was a late change to Poveda’s transfer, Rohl kept his cards close to his chest.
Speaking to The Star, the German coach said: “This was a difficult one but for me the key point is that the player is now here. Sometimes there is an agreement between clubs and it makes more sense or less sense. But it is important he is here and I am happy with that. We will give him time. He has shown in the past he has great skills and these skills can help us.”
When asked whether Sheffield Wednesday could try and persuade the 23-year-old to sign permanently in the summer, Rohl said: “Yeah, this is exactly what I will do.
“Now we will start to prepare for the summer and that means to look for our players, to extend contracts, to speak with them and look for new options in the summer. We have to make the decision. If we are convinced on players then we have to move and do it as soon as possible and get players we can take in the future.”

Ian Poveda’s contract with Leeds United expires in the summer, so it looks extremely likely that he will leave the club on a permanent basis.
If the winger does well for Sheffield Wednesday this season then failing to land him on a permanent deal in January will be incredibly frustrating, because he could well have a queue of suitors lining up to take him on a free instead.
With a long list of players out of contract in the summer, Poveda could be the perfect addition to their squad, but it won’t be easy to convince him. Their position in the football pyramid will also have a big impact on whether they can lure him in beyond this season.
