Sheffield Wednesday had recently targeted a loan move for Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara, but a move won’t be materialising.
Rob Staton revealed last week that Camara, 26, was of serious interest to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the 2023/24 season.
But Staton has since revealed that Ipswich look to have pulled the plug on Camara’s potential move to Hillsborough wit the Tractor Boys unwilling to lend a player to a Championship rival in Wednesday.
And it’s since been revealed that Camara is set to sign for Charlton Athletic on a season-long loan.
Dean Holden is set to add the energetic midfielder to his ranks ahead of next season and for the Addicks, it looks like a very promising signing ahead of a likely promotion push in the third tier next time round.
As for Xisco Munoz and Wednesday, it’s of course a blow, and the Spaniard will now have to look elsewhere for a potential midfield addition this summer.
Are the Owls in for a tough summer?
This kind of transfer blow could repeat itself throughout this summer.
Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to utilise the loan market for Premier League and Championship players, though players from the top flight may head to second tier teams who’ll be challenging for promotion.
Wednesday could struggle next season and they could be forced to loan players from other second tier sides. But as they’ve seen with Camara, that won’t be all too easy, and so it could be a very testing summer for the Owls.
But there’s still time and still hope that Munoz can get a few new faces in before the start of the 2023/24 season, which Wednesday kick off at home to Southampton.
