Sheffield Wednesday took on Murcia last night.
Sheffield Wednesday are in Spain for their pre-season preparations, with the Owls playing out a goalless draw in what was their third game of the summer so far.
Xisco Munoz got another good look at his new side, but the Spaniard was also dealt a potential blow ahead of the new season with Marvin Johnson coming off injured in the first half of the game.
And speaking to The Star after the game, Munoz said of the 32-year-old:
“With him, right now I don’t know exactly what happened. I will ask the doctor and then I’m sure that I’ll be able to give you more information because I’ll have been given the report about what happened and how the player feels after the game.”
Johnson was released at the end of last month but he’s since re-signed with the club. Last season, Johnson featured 44 times in League One fixtures, scoring three goals and assisting seven more.
He’s one of the more experienced and reliable names in the side and so his re-signing with the club was certainly a positive bit of news, and his injury is certainly a worrying one.
Johnson injured – a blow for Munoz
Ahead of the new season, Munoz needs all the bodies and experience he can get.
And Johnson provides great versatility and experience and so his injury – if it’s a serious one that keeps him out of the start of the 2023/24 campaign – will come as a huge blow to the Spaniard.
Sheffield Wednesday’s squad is already very thin on the ground and so any injury in pre-seaosn is a really frustrating one.
Once the extent of his injury is revealed, Munoz can go from there, and if it’s a serious one then he might have to consider signing a replacement before the summer transfer window shuts on September 1st.
