Sheffield Wednesday could welcome Callum Paterson back to the squad in time for this weekend’s clash with Cardiff City.

Callum Paterson has been exceptional since Danny Rohl’s arrival in October, becoming one of the German’s old reliables as he has played out of a full 90 minutes in six of his eleven games in charge.

The versatile star has now racked up the third-most shots on the squad (20), the fourth-most tackles (28) and the most headers won (55).

His importance to the team left Danny Rohl and supporters concerned when he was forced off against QPR through injury, with the 29-year-old missing out on training at the start of the week after he was stretchered off the pitch.

However, The Star journalist Joe Crann reported from today’s press conference that Paterson had returned to training ahead of this weekend’s match against Cardiff.

Speaking to the media today, Rohl said: ““He’s back in training, he’s fine. I was very happy when I got the result from his scan and everything was fine – this was a good thing.

“This time of year it’s good to have a lot of players available… He’s a guy who can run, fight, sprint and cross very well – I’m very happy to have players available, and it’s good to have him back.”

Can Callum Paterson be the key to this weekend’s win?

Callum Paterson has played pretty much all over the pitch for Sheffield Wednesday this term.

The former Cardiff City man has played at full-back, wing-back, left midfield, right midfield and centre forward.

With a lack of squad depth in certain areas, Paterson has come in extremely handy for Danny Rohl and it would have been a huge loss if he was to have missed out on the clash with his former side.

Fans will be hoping he is available to start against the Bluebirds, as he will be vital in claiming all three points against them.

Cardiff sit a whopping 24 points above the Owls, but their recent form should be something that Sheffield Wednesday can look forward to.

The Welsh outfit have won only one of their last five games and have found themselves falling down to the Championship table, despite previously looking to compete for the playoffs.

If Sheffield Wednesday can overcome Cardiff then they could end up only three points from safety, with 21st place Huddersfield Town facing a tough trip to Norwich – a trip that the Owls failed to exploit this month.
