Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan has sent a message to Carlos Carvalhal after he secured a new job yesterday.
The man who took Wednesday to the Play-Off Final has taken over at Olympiacos in the Greek top flight.
Carvalhal was worshipped during his time at Wednesday and the fans dearly loved the team that he assembled.
The Portuguese manager spent over two years at Hillsborough and won 56 of his 131 matches in charge of the team.
He left with a win ratio of 42.75 and has since managed several teams in England, Portugal and the Middle East.
Bannan congratulates Carvalhal
The midfielder was signed by the Portuguese manager and he’s been with Wednesday ever since 2015.
Yesterday, after Carvalhal was handed the reigns at Olympiacos, Bannan took to Instagram.
The club captain posted a two-word message to his former boss on Instagram that simply read: “Congrats boss.”
Bannan helped Wednesday reach the Championship Play-Off Final in his first season at the club.
With Carvalhal at the helm, the Owls played some wonderful football and it’s a season that Wednesday fans remember fondly.
Carvalhal should star at Olympiacos
Given the comments made by Bannan, it’s clear that he has a lot of respect for his old boss.
Carvalhal was a good manager for Wednesday and it’s a shame things ended as they did.
The manager should be more than capable of producing the goods for Olympiacos over the next few months.
Evangelos Marinakis is a tough taskmaster and he knows he will have to win the league this season.
Bannan and Carvalhal had a good relationship at Wednesday and clearly, the captain is thankful that he signed him all those years ago.
The captain has grown as a cult hero at Hillsborough. Last year, Bannan was ecstatic as he hoisted the League One Play-Off Final trophy aloft at Wembley.
Sadly for Carvalhal, he never got to experience that in 2016. Wednesday ran into a brilliant Hull team and ultimately they missed out.
Whilst Carvalhal has become a bit of a journeyman since leaving Wednesday, Bannan has remained.
He’s now integral in South Yorkshire and it will be a sad day when the midfielder does eventually leave the club.
