Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan says the players are letting manager Xisco Munoz down right now.
Sheffield Wednesday remain winless in the Championship, sitting in last place after a 3-0 defeat v fellow strugglers Swansea City last weekend.
Munoz is coming under severe scrutiny for his side’s poor performances this season. But club captain and fan favourite Bannan has jumped to the Spaniard’s defence ahead of Friday’s clash v Sunderland.
Speaking to the club, Bannan said:
“As players we have got to take the brunt as we’re the ones out there. We are under-performing. We need to look at ourselves, we are letting the manager and the club down at the moment.”
Bannan has played in all but one of Wednesday’s opening eight Championship games this season, scoring once.
In what is his ninth season at the club though, it’s difficult to remember a time or a spell quite as bad as this right now.
Who’s to blame at Sheffield Wednesday?
It’s obviously a very bad time for Sheffield Wednesday and blame will be thrown around every which way.
The players are certainly under-performing but Munoz isn’t doing himself any favours either, with his poor tactics and questionable selection at fault for a lot for Wednesday’s results this season.
Ultimately though, the buck stops at the top, with owner Djephon Chansiri.
His lack of investment and poor handling of the Darren Moore saga among other things has seen Wednesday fall into a rut this season, with relegation now looking nailed on for the Owls.
