Sheffield Wednesday are facing another FA investigation, this time after their 2-0 defeat at home to Leeds United on Friday night. The club have made this announcement this morning in a statement on their official website.

The Owls were beaten on home soil to end a run of four successive victories in the Championship. However, a spirited performance could now be tarnished with the club facing a charge after an incident in the stands.

So, what happened at Hillsborough during this hotly-anticipated Yorkshire-derby? We’ve taken a closer look at the incident and what could happen to Wednesday...

Sheffield Wednesday hit with another FA charge after defeat to Leeds

Well, it would appear as though Wednesday could now be in a little bit of bother. The Owls have released a statement this morning on the club’s official website to suggest that an investigation is ongoing.

The incident occurred in the second half of the contest shortly after Willy Gnonto had made it 2-0 to the promotion-chasing Whites.

Illan Meslier was peppered with bottles from the Kop area of Hillsborough and now the FA are going to look into the actions of a minority of Wednesday supporters.

It’s claimed that the club are now at risk of FA sanctions for this act and other unsavoury incidents that have taken place at Hillsborough this season.

For starters, an investigation from the FA will result in another unnecessary cost, including possible financial sanctions that the club will be responsible for.

Wednesday have to clean up their act – although kick-off time didn’t help here

It’s not an excuse and those found guilty should face lengthy bans from Hillsborough but a Yorkshire derby of this nature being played at 8pm was a recipe for disaster.

Friday night football is liked by some but it does allow extra hours for some fans to be sat in the pub!

Wednesday must clean up their act. Some years ago, Leeds fans were criticised when one ran onto the pitch and in a barbaric act, punched Wednesday goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.

Now, the Owls have responded by throwing missiles at the Leeds stopper after he appeared to shush the home supporters.

Danny Rohl is trying his best to keep Wednesday in the Championship this season. The Owls are still nicely poised and they need the fans to keep their cool.

In our view, this isn’t a great look for the football club and those found guilty might find themselves in hot water – and possibly banned from Hillsborough for a considerable period of time.
