Jon Newsome has a big worry about Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri. The controversial owner of the football club has caused chaos this week after the club were late with a payment to HMRC.
Now, it appears that things are level once again financially. However, Chansiri remains adamant that he’s no longer putting the money required into the football club.
What this means for Wednesday remains to be seen and Newsome is concerned. On the pitch, the Owls head to Bristol City this weekend looking to build on their first win of the campaign last Sunday.
Newsome has concerns about Wednesday owner Chansiri
The man who helped Wednesday win promotion during the 1991/92 campaign has some issues. He’s admitted he’s worried for the future of the Hillsborough-based club.
Newsome served the club with distinction during his playing days and represented Wednesday in the Premier League as a player. It’s fair to say that’s he not impressed with Chansiri.
In a passionate interview with Yorkshire Live, he said: “Is it really a surprise? You look at his last statement in September and is it just a follow on from that? By the sounds of it, he’s either run out of money or isn’t willing to put any more money in.
“You don’t run any business like that let alone a football club. I think he has a real issue with supporters saying that he’s only a custodian.
“My biggest fear is that he drives it into the ground. That the club goes into administration and he walks away maybe feeling he has his pride intact because he can blame everyone else. That’s my biggest fear.
Wednesday must focus on football this weekend
With or without Chansiri, Wednesday will always exist. The club is far too big to go under and perhaps Newsome needn’t worry about that happening to the football club.
This weekend, the Owls have another huge game. They face Bristol City who at the moment are without a manager and they have another huge chance to get another win.
It’s important that Wednesday get behind Danny Rohl’s men this weekend. As for Chansiri, the owner has to make a decision and do what is right in the best interests of the football club.
