Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has revealed that the club are looking for a new Head of Recruitment.
There’s change in the air at Sheffield Wednesday.
Indeed, there has been since the summer when Darren Moore’s exit kick-started what has turned out to be a fairly catastrophic season both on and off the pitch.
David Downes also left his position as Head of Recruitment in the summer and he’s yet to be replaced; in more recent weeks, Liam Dooley has left his position as Chief Executive Officer, with GM Alastair Wilson taking over Dooley’s responsibilities.
And in a recent interview with The Star, Wednesday owner Chansiri has first revealed that he won’t be hiring a new Chief Executive Officer, but that he is in the process of hiring a new recruitment chief.
He said:
“We will replace David Downes, I’m currently looking at who I want to bring in. Scouting at the club is something that needs to be done more in detail and with analysis – Danny [Rohl] actually also has people who can do that and work with us. On top of that I have what I call my advisors who are outside the club.
“So yes, I’m going to bring in someone, it’s something that I’m looking for. Danny will work with my people as well, because that’s how it works. It was the same with Darren. There are the club’s people and the coach’s people.”
Danny Rohl’s recent appointment has seen several new names join the Owls‘ backroom staff, including the likes of Sascha Lense and Chris Powell.
Chansiri looking for a new recruitment chief…
Chansiri should arguably have had a Downes replacement lined up for when he left in the summer.
The Owls had a turbulent summer transfer window with mixed results but if they had a recruitment chief in place then their summer transfer window might have boasted better results.
Still, hiring a new Had of Recruitment is better later than never. And bringing one in would be another decent addition to what is starting to look like a strong backroom team at Hillsborough.
There’s still a lot of issues to be resolved and a lot of bridges to be rebuilt by the controversial Owls owner, but hiring a good recruitment chief would be a positive move.
