It’s now been claimed that Sheffield Wednesday target Pol Valentin has said his goodbyes to his Sporting Gijon teammates. The Owls have been scouring the market for players and the Spaniard could be the next new addition.

According to Killer Asturias, the player is now set to sign terms at Hillsborough imminently. Xisco Munoz will complete the second signing since he arrived, following the additions of Juan Delgado and Ashley Fletcher.

Valentin has been with Gijon since 2022 when he signed from Fuenlabrada. He’s only made 24 appearances for the club and typically operates as a right-back or a right-sided wing-back.

Throughout his career in the Spanish lower leagues, he’s played in a number of positions. Valentin is a bit of a utility man and perhaps that’s why Munoz is keen to bring him to Hillsborough.

There are some doubts over whether Liam Palmer will be fit to begin the campaign after groin surgery. As a result, perhaps Wednesday are making this addition to provide competition in the meantime.

The Owls need to get their skates on if they’re to strengthen the squad prior to the campaign getting underway. The team’s first game of the season comes a week tomorrow when they play Southampton at Hillsborough.

Wednesday set to land Valentin

Nothing against the player but it’s hard to get too excited about this addition. In fairness, none of the signings made are really what the Wednesday faithful will have hoped for after winning promotion.

Valentin will have to prove himself at Hillsborough. Naturally, the loyal Wednesdayites will give him every chance to do that but in the short-term, the jury might remain out somewhat.

At 26-years-old, the player is at a nice age. Munoz wants him and ultimately, that’s all that matters at this stage with the season opener just eight days away.

Valentin can play in a number of positions and that should help during a demanding season. Hopefully, this isn’t the last addition to be added and Wednesday will get some bigger named before next week.
