Sheffield Wednesday were rumoured to have takeover interest earlier in the season.
Back in November, it was revealed by fan group The 1867 Group that Sheffield Wednesday had takeover interest, and that Dejphon Chansiri had met with a consortium regarding a possible sale.
But that obviously never materialised with Chansiri apparently ‘not acting in good faith’.
Since, Chansiri’s popularity among Sheffield Wednesday seems to have reached an all-time low, with The 1867 Group staging perhaps the largest protest against the club’s owner since his took the reins in 2015.
And speaking exclusively to Sheffield Wednesday News, The 1867 Group have revealed that they’ve heard ‘nothing’ from Chansiri since they formed earlier this season, and that they previously tried and failed to secure a meeting with the club.

Speaking to Sheffield Wednesday News, Jim from The 1867 Group said when asked if he and the group have heard from Chansiri:
“Heard absolutely nothing. Other than his rant where he namechecked us one time, we’ve heard nothing. We did try to organise a meeting with the club, once we’d heard about rumours of a potential bid on the table, we did try to set up a meeting. We emailed the club, and at the time we were anonymous, so we emailed the club and said, ‘we’ll lose anonymity, all we ask is that no banning orders come off the back of it and there’s no legal action’.
“They couldn’t put into writing that none of us would get banned, so we pulled out of that meeting. But it was us instigating that meeting. We wanted it… But they just couldn’t put into writing that they weren’t going to ban us. We even agreed some of their conditions; they said that they didn’t want the meeting recorded, we said that’s fine as long as we can make notes. But it was us that instigated it.”
Failed Sheffield Wednesday meeting and what to make of it
Given what’s been said above, it seems like Sheffield Wednesday wanted to meet with The 1867 Group and share their side of thing or whatever was going on, but that something pulled the plug at the last minute.
That something might be someone, and it may well be Chansiri who knows who The 1867 Group are, but will no doubt disagree with their cause.
To not want the meeting recorded may suggest that there’s information that the club doesn’t want getting out into the public domain, or there may be non-disclosure agreements in place; if the latter were the case, though, there may not have been a chance for a meeting in the first place.
So there looks to have been something brewing regarding a takeover earlier in the season. And it would’ve made for great news among Sheffield Wednesday fans, though they’re still stuck with an owner who has little-to-no fans left.
