Sheffield Wednesday signed a horde of new players in the summer. But few of them have really impressed.
Names like Anthony Musaba and Djeidi Gassama have been exciting additions to the squad, albeit not overwhelmingly good signings for Sheffield Wednesday who sit in last place of the table.
The Owls have signed several players who are yet to really kick on, with one of those being Newcastle United loan man Jeff Hendrick.
The Irish international joined on deadline day and he’s since featured seven times in the Championship.
Journalist gives Hendrick 3/10 verdict…
Writing for Yorkshire Live, journalist Ricky Charles assessed and rated all of Wednesday’s loan players.
He gave Hendrick a 3/10 score, adding:
“Arrived from Newcastle on deadline day and was seen as an experienced and canny addition in the middle of the park. However, he’s failed to make the impact that many were hoping for. New manager Röhl started him in his first game at Watford and he passed up a great chance to score that day. He has missed out on the last two matchday squads whilst his discipline record makes poor reading, given he’s been booked three times in just seven outings.”
A fair assessment of Hendrick at Sheffield Wednesday?
Hendrick certainly arrived as a decent-looking addition. He has the experience and the pedigree, but he’s certainly had a tough few years with the 31-year-old failing to settle down.
He did a decent job in a misfiring Reading side last season. But he’s so far been poor for Wednesday; criticism of him though, especially after his debut vs Ipswich Town, may have been overly-harsh.
Danny Rohl doesn’t seem to fancy him and whether or not Hendrick makes his way back into the side soon, especially with Momo Diaby closing in on a return, remains to be seen.
