Danny Rohl has provided an injury update on one of Sheffield Wednesday’s most important players.
Sheffield Wednesday enjoyed their first win in seven games on Friday evening as Ike Ugbo claimed all three points for the hosts.
The Owls were boosted by the arrival of Ian Poveda to the starting line-up, while Marvin Johnson made his return after being sidelined for the last two games.
However, Danny Rohl remained without Callum Paterson at his disposal for yet another match.
Callum Paterson’s versatility has proved vital for Sheffield Wednesday this term, playing at full-back, on either wing, in midfield and even centre forward so far.
However, the 29-year-old hasn’t featured since he was forced off with concussion during the defeat to Coventry City on Boxing Day. While he had recovered, it was later confirmed that he was struggling with a knee problem.
Paterson has since missed the previous ten games in all competitions and looks set for a further spell on the sidelines.
When asked about his injury, Rohl told The Star: “Pato had a knee operation, so it’s difficult to say.
“It could be April, it’s long term. In our situation we need everybody, and Callum is an experienced guy with fighting relegation, but this is what we cannot change. We have to move forward with the injuries.”
He added: “I think we will not see him back until April. This is not a good situation for Callum or the squad of course but what we can do is wish him the very best in his recovery and hope to see him back as soon as possible.”
When will we see Callum Paterson again?
Callum Paterson had been a regular for Sheffield Wednesday prior to his injury and his versatility gave Danny Rohl plenty more options throughout his team selection.
The Owls have won three and drawn one of their seven games without the utility man though, but they could miss his experience in the most important stage of the season.
Rohl will be desperate for him to return in April and play out the final run-in to keep their Championship status, though it’s unclear how much football we will see him play before the summer.
The club have the likes of West Brom, Blackburn and Norwich to face in April, before rounding off the campaign with a trip to Sunderland.
It looks to be an incredibly tough race to avoid relegation, so let’s hope Paterson is around to help out.
