Sheffield Wednesday host Bristol City in the Championship this weekend.

Sheffield Wednesday welcome Bristol City to Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon, for another cup final in the Owls’ fight for survival.

A 2-0 win against Millwall last time out has now left Danny Rohl‘s side with a four-point gap to safety.

And with the Lions heading to Southampton this weekend, Sheffield Wednesday have a great chance to pull themselves closer to safety.

Bristol City were dealt a 1-0 defeat at home to QPR last time out, but beat Southampton in the game prior to that; the Robins currently sit in 12th.

Bristol City hoping for first Hillsborough win since 2012

In recent years, Sheffield Wednesday have enjoyed a pretty decent record against Bristol City.

The Robins won the reverse fixture back in November, and the Owls haven’t beaten Bristol City since 2020, but in last 10 meetings between these two, Wednesday have won four, drawn three, and lost three.

All four of those wins came one after the other between 2018 and 2020, with Hillsborough being a bit of a bogey ground for Bristol City.

The Robins haven’t won away at Wednesday since the end of 2012 when they came from behind to win 3-2, with Miguel Llera and Gary Madine on the scoresheet in that Championship fixture; little over 11 years.

Bristol City have won just two of their last nine trips to Sheffield Wednesday.

Another huge chance for Sheffield Wednesday

It’s another huge weekend at the foot of the Champiosnihp table.

QPR host bottom club Rotherham United, Millwall are at Southampton, and Huddersfield Town are at Watford.

Just four points separate Millwall in 21st and Plymouth Argyle in 17th. It’s becoming really tight at the bottom and a run for anyone between Sheffield Wednesday in 23rd and Plymouth could see them shoot up into the mid-section of the table.

The Owls though have momentum right now. They’ve become formidable at home under Rohl and Bristol City will be very wary of the Owls’ threat this weekend.

And with Millwall in for a tough game at Southampton, and QPR no doubt hoping for a win against bottom club Rotherham, another win here for the Wednesday is vital in their bid for survival.

Millwall look like they’re getting quickly sucked into a real dog fight and that works for Sheffield Wednesday who need to make life as difficult as possible for the teams around them, in order to give themselves the best possible chance of staying up.

Kick off tomorrow is at 3pm.
