BBC Radio Sheffield reporter Rob Staton says that Sheffield Wednesday have ‘serious interest’ in Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara.
Camara, 26, joined Ipswich Town from Plymouth Argyle last summer for a reported fee of £500,000.
But the midfielder would feature just four times in all competitions as a combination of injury and a lack of form kept him out of the side.
Now though, Staton says that Sheffield Wednesday have a ‘serious interest’ in the four-cap Guinea-Bissau international, but that a potential deal ‘could come down to whether Ipswich want to let him join another Championship club’.
Staton tweeted earlier today:
In two years at Plymouth, the former Crawley Town man racked up 95 total appearances with 10 goals and 10 assists in that time, prompting Ipswich to bring him in for their eventual promotion from League One.
And former Argyle boss Ryan Lowe was a fan of Camara’s. Back in 2021, the now Preston boss had this to say on Camara:
“He’s a fantastic player. The fans love him and we love him, that’s why he plays every game.
“He does some things what he needs to get better on, and he does some things where you go ‘Wow’. He has got to get that consistency of performing week in week out.”
So far this summer, Sheffield Wednesday have signed Reece James on a permanent deal from Blackpool.
Camara coming to Hillsborough?
Camara looks to be well out of favour at Portman Road and now that Ipswich are in the Championship, it surely won’t have done his chances of first-team football any favours.
But like Staton says, his future could depend on whether or not Ipswich would give him to another Championship side.
Expect the club to want to make back a bit of money on him given how much they spent on him, but it seems unlikely that Wednesday would fork out anything on anyone this summer.
He’d certainly be a good addition though. He showed at Plymouth that he’s a midfielder who can score and create goals and that’s something that the Owls could really do with in their ranks ahead of next season.
Keep an eye on this one throughout the summer.
