Sheffield Wednesday fans weren’t at all impressed with the performance of veteran Liam Palmer in the game against Preston.

Liam Palmer has long been a favourite among Sheffield Wednesday fans, and a useful player for Danny Rohl who’s played the 33-year-old in a number of positions now.

Barry Bannan was suspended for Sheffield Wednesday against Preston and Palmer came into the XI in his place.

But the game passed him by in the first half. Palmer had minimal impact and was brought off at half-time.

Sheffield Wednesday fans critical of Liam Palmer after Preston North End

Wednesday fans had a lot to say about Palmer after his poor first half display. Fans described him as ‘terrible’, with many agreeing that he shouldn’t have started in midfield.

“Palmer didn’t stop walking until min 44’. Unrecognisable,” said one fan, as another added: “Palmer may have 450 whatever appearances but he is really not up to it.”

Other comments read: “Don’t want to see Liam Palmer anywhere near our midfield again,” as well as: “Can’t understand Danny’s thinking starting Palmer in midfield.”

Another Wednesday fan posted: “Palmer should never have started in place of Bannan; handed them momentum from the off.”

Meanwhile, a similar comment read: “Palmer playing on the toes of our centre backs. Wrong call to put him in.”
