Danny Rohl has provided an injury update on Sheffield Wednesday pair Will Vaulks and Akin Famewo.
Sheffield Wednesday claimed a hard-fought three points last night as they narrowly beat Preston North End, thanks to a first-half goal from Marvin Johnson.
The victory came after successive defeats in the Championship, and they now sit six points from safety in the league table.
The win against play-off contenders Preston is huge for Sheffield Wednesday, but it also came with a number of blows.
Akin Famewo had to be replaced Liam Palmer on the half hour mark, before Will Vaulks was forced off only four minutes later and made way for George Byers. Things went from bad to worse when the latter was also sent off in the late stages of the Deepdale tie.
With Dominic Iorfa, Callum Paterson, Michael Smith, John Buckley and Bambo Diaby all currently unavailable, Danny Rohl has shared his concerns. However, he did suggest that Vaulks and Famewo shouldn’t be out for too long.
Speaking to The Star after the game, the German coach said: “I had to make two early changes with Akin and Will.
“And then we had the record card – that’s maybe three players out. When you look at our squad there are maybe not too many players available at the moment.
“They had some issues with their hamstrings, but we’ll do everything to try and have them available for the next game. It’s normal in this tough time, it’s been three games in six days and now we have four games in eight days – it’s hard. Especially when you want to play with our intensity and pressing and transition and ball possession, all the things that we have to do.
“But we did well as a team, and that’s what we take from the win. Now it’s about recovery, recovery, recovery, and then we’ll be ready for the next game.”

Sheffield Wednesday’s injury woes have come at a bad time considering the congestion of fixtures over the festive period.
The Owls are already limited for numbers in defence and midfield, with Pol Valentin forced to play further forward against Preston.
Tyreeq Bakinson’s looming exit also makes things more difficult for Danny Rohl, with the Yorkshire outfit really struggling for squad depth heading into the match against Hull City.
The long list of unavailable players may mean Sheffield Wednesday will have to try their best to register Momo Diaby ahead of the clash with The Tigers, with registration made available on New Year’s Day.
