Sheffield Wednesday boss Xisco Munoz says the club are close to signing a new goalkeeper.
Sheffield Wednesday currently have just one first-team goalkeeper on their books in Cameron Dawson.
And since the appointment of Munoz, the Owls have also brought in a new goalkeeper coach in Antonello Brambilla and Munoz has spoken highly of the Italian coach.
Speaking to The Star, Munoz hailed Brambilla before going on to reveal that the club are closing in on a new goalkeeper signing.
Munoz said:
“Always he improves the keepers. Which is one of the reasons why I brought him here. He’s a good professional, and he gives the goalkeepers what they need to improve.
“Also, for the keeper that in our minds is coming – because I think we’re close for an agreement – it’s important that they all three have a very good coach. I think Antonello is the best in this case for them.”
Sheffield Wednesday were linked with a move for Burnley’s Bailey Peacock-Farrell earlier yhis summer, with free agent shot-stopper Axel Werner linked last week.
Wednesday making transfer progress
Sheffield Wednesday’s summer transfer business was always going to be delayed after Darren Moore’s exit last month.
But Munoz’s revelation to The Star is an exciting one and it could really get the ball rolling for the Owls this summer, with a difficult 2023/24 season lying ahead.
A new goalkeeper though is just the tip of the iceberg for Munoz, and it’ll also be interesting to see if Munoz signs a new no.1 or a goalkeeper to play back up to Dawson going into next season.
Sheffield Wednesday are currently away in Spain for part of their pre-season preparations, with a friendly game v Murcia coming up tomorrow night.
