Danny Rohl has reacted to Bambo Diaby’s red card during Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat to Coventry City.
Bambo Diaby joined Sheffield Wednesday from Preston North End in the summer and has so far been a key player in the team, starting 20 of the Owls’ 24 games so far. The defender has played the full 90 minutes on 10 occasions since Danny Rohl was appointed.
Diaby now faces his first spell out of the team since October though, after he was sent off after the full-time whistle in yesterday’s clash with Coventry.
The Owls endured a 2-0 defeat in the West Midlands, with Tatsuhiro Sakamoto doubling their lead with only one minute of normal time left.
Danny Rohl’s side had already missed out on any points by the time the full-time whistle was blown, but things only got worse when Bambo Diaby ended up in a scuffle with Liam Kitching.
The pair were both sent off and Diaby will now serve a three-game suspension, meaning he will miss out on matches against Preston North End, Hull City and Cardiff City.
Whe asked about the red card, Rohl told Radio Sheffield: “It was a hard decision at the end of the game, the game was done and then two red cards, one for either side. It is really hard. It is OK, there are always emotions in the game but in what was a fair game there was nothing in it (the game). For us it is hard because the player will now miss the next games.
“But now we must go forward, this is what I told the players, that we have to do it again and create a new momentum. I have spoken about the process and it is not a straight line, always up. It is a little bit up and down and this is what I know. This is what I say after my wins and will try to take points and points. Cardiff was disappointing and today one point would have been good but we have to take this and accept it. In the next days it is about recovery and going forward.”
Who will replace Bambo Diaby?
Despite defeat in the last two games, Di’Shon Bernard and Bambo Diaby had formed a pretty good partnership under Danny Rohl.
His absence could see Michael Ihiekwe come back into the starting line-up though, with the defender being handed a rare start in the defeat to Norwich earlier this month.
Ihiekwe has been an unused substitute in the last three games but could make only his sixth start of the campaign as Sheffield Wednesday travel to Deepdale tomorrow.
