Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has been explaining why Callum Paterson missed last night’s game against Plymouth. The Owls were thrashed 3-0 by the Pilgrims to go 13 games in the Championship without a victory.
Paterson was a surprise omission when the team sheet came out last night. He’s been a regular in the Wednesday team this season and his physical presence was missed.
The 29-year-old has started eight times this season. His most recent outing came on Saturday in Rohl’s first game when the Owls were beaten 1-0 by Watford.

Thankfully, it doesn’t sound as though this is anything too serious. The Owls should have Paterson back on Sunday when Rotherham United are the visitors at Hillsborough.
Rohl was quizzed on Paterson after last night’s drab defeat to Plymouth which left the Owls 11 points adrift of safety in the Championship.
He told The Star: “Callum Paterson had some problems with his legs. But I think he’ll be ready for Sunday. With the others, I have just 20 players that I can bring here, and it was my decision. On Friday and Saturday, we’ll try out the squad.”
Wednesday need experienced players fit
It really is dire straits for new Wednesday boss Rohl right now. Two defeats in his first two games is far from ideal but ultimately, this won’t be a quick fix by the German manager.
In his first two games, Wednesday have played better. Last night they were hit by two sucker punches just before half-time after dominating the opening 45 minutes.
Wednesday simply need to get that first win off their backs. Once they get one, it will give them the belief to get a few more and Paterson is the type of player they could do with.
The Owls performer can operate in a number of positions on the pitch. Furthermore, Paterson always gives his all for Wednesday and having him out on the pitch can only help the Owls .
