Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl takes charge of his first game this weekend, away at Watford in the Championship.
For the 34-year-old Rohl, it’s a first game as a manager.
The German has experience working as an assistant coach with the likes of Southampton, RB Leipzig, and Bayern Munich, having most recently worked as an assistant with the German national side.
So Rohl will be looking to call upon different experiences as he takes charge of Wednesday. And speaking in his first pre-match press conference this afternoon, Rohl named former Manchester United boss Ralf Rangnick as his role model.
Rohl said:
“I think as a role model I got a lot of experience from Ralf Ragnick, but I can take parts from all managers I’ve worked with and create my own philosophy and style of coaching.”
Rohl worked under current Austria boss Rangnick during his spell at Leipzig, which came before his brief spell in charge of Manchester United.
So, what to expect from Rohl?
Rohl will certainly be his own manager. He might have role models in names like Rangnick, and he’s worked under others in Hansi Flick and Ralph Hasenhuttl, but Rohl will no doubt look to take inspiration from all of them.
As a manager and tactician, Rangnick sides deploy the contemporary modern press and look to dominate games and oppositions.
Rangnick also deployed a 4-3-3 or 4-2-2-2 formation, so that’s potentially something that we could see Rohl deploy at Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.
Saturday’s game kicks off at 3pm.
