A Sheffield Wednesday star has issued a two-word update after making his return to training.
Sheffield Wednesday suffered a double injury blow when it was confirmed that both Barry Bannan and Ian Poveda were set for a spell on the sidelines after the defeat to Ipswich Town.
The international break came at an ideal time though, with players elsewhere using it to help aid their recovery in the hope that they can make a comeback in the next couple of weeks.
Two players who now look to be nearing a return to the senior team are Josh Windass and Callum Paterson, with the latter not making an appearance since the 2-0 defeat to Coventry City on Boxing Day.
Danny Rohl had provided a positive update on Paterson prior to the international break, confirming he could be available at the end of March/start of April, despite being initially expected to not return for another month.
The news on Windass wasn’t quite as positive though, with the German coach admitting he had suffered a setback and may not make his own comeback until next week.
However, the pair certainly look to be closing in on first team action after Paterson shared a photo of them in training on Instagram yesterday.
The 29-year-old added the caption: “Nearly there!”
When will the pair return to action?
Paterson’s post does suggest he isn’t fully fit quite yet, which could mean he misses out on this weekend’s meeting with Swansea City. The utility player has been sidelined for three months now, so is likely to take a while to get up to speed – which may limit his impact in the final eight games.
Windass hasn’t been out for quite as long though and will be eager to be heavily included in the final stretch of the campaign.
The return of both players will be vital though, especially with Poveda and Bannan out.
It could also be Windass’ final chance to impress at Hillsborough over the next month or so, with many supporters now pushing for his exit this summer after his struggles with injuries all season.
The midfielder did pull off some playoff heroics this time last season, so perhaps fans will want him to stay if he can snatch the goal that keeps the Owls in the Championship this time round.
