Sheffield Wednesday were battered on Saturday afternoon, as they lost 4-0 to Millwall, with a journalist slamming Bambo Diaby for his performance.
In what was Joe Edwards’ first game as Millwall manager since taking over from Gary Rowert, there was a sense of optimism that the Owls would be able to potentially get their second win of the season under Danny Rohl.
However that optimism was short lived, when Murray Wallace gave the away side the lead in the 31st minute, before George Saville doubled their lead just before half time.
Millwall then got their third early into the second half through Wes Harding, before Brooke Norton-Cuffy got Millwall’s fourth and final goal, as they completed a 4-0 drubbing of Wednesday at Hillsborough.
Journalist slams 2/10 performance
Journalist for Yorkshire Live, Ricky Charlesworth, slammed Diaby in his player ratings following the game, giving the Spaniard a two out of ten rating. He also said:
“A grim performance as he was ran ragged by his opposite number. Just looks all at sea and surely time for a change in the heart of defence?”
Should Diaby be dropped?
Diaby has been a regular for Wednesday this season since joining in the summer, making 12 appearances so far in the Championship.
Since Rohl took charge in the October international break, Diaby has played every single minute under the German, but this was by far his worst performance.
As Charlesworth said, there may now be calls for Diaby to not start for the Owls after the international break.
Rohl could look to the likes of Akin Famewo or Michael Ihekwe to come into the side, so Wednesday are not short of options at centre half.
Diaby has been playing as the central centre back of a back three, with Ihiekwe’s size and power meaning he could be perfect for this role.
Famewo has only recently played at left back despite naturally being a centre back, so he could also come in on the left hand side of the back three, which means Di’Shon Bernard can be pushed as the central centre back.
