Sheffield Wednesday midfielder George Byers has opened up on the current atmosphere in the dressing room ahead of Saturday’s trip to Bristol City.
Wednesday are coming off the back of their first win of the season, a 2-0 victory over fellow strugglers and Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United on Sunday afternoon.
Former Rotherham striker Michael Smith grabbed both goals against his former club.
Byers on ‘Positive vibe’ at Wednesday
Speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Owls’ trip to Bristol City, as relayed on the club’s X account (formerly known as Twitter), Byers said that there is a ‘positive vibe’ surrounding Wednesday at the moment that has been built up by manager Danny Rohl.
“There has been a positive vibe in the changing room after the win on Sunday and we are focused on Saturday and building on that.
“The new manager has built positivity around the place, he’s been really positive for myself and the group.
“It’s a cliché but it’s one game at a time. It was a great feeling in the changing room and now there is a sense of, ‘can we go and back that up and get another one’.”
Wednesday to pick up another win?
Despite all the off-field issues, Wednesday will feel like they have a very good opportunity to get all three points again on Saturday, with Bristol City managerless after the sacking of Nigel Pearson last week.
After a difficult start to the season on and off the pitch for everyone involved at Wednesday, everyone will be hoping Sunday’s win will kickstart their season in the hopes they can avoid relegation.
