Sheffield Wednesday-linked David Button is set to join Reading, says journalist Tom Collomosse.

Button, 34, emerged as a potential goalkeeper target for Sheffield Wednesday last month. The Owls are in the market for a new no.1 with just Cameron Dawson in their first-team but it looks like Button won’t be heading to Hillsborough.

Daily Mail reporter Collomosse says that Button is set to join the League One club, depending on their transfer situation with the Royals under transfer embargo.

So whilst it looks like Button is heading for Reading, a move is not guaranteed and so Wednesday could still be in the race for Button.

With the start of the new season so close though, Xisco Munoz and his side can’t afford to wait around for the likes of Button and so expect the Owls to be eyeing up other targets.

Another name linked is Axel Werner, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell linked earlier in the summer too – the latter has since sealed a move elsewhere though.

Wednesday need to push the Button on new signings

Button is another name who looks to have come into contention for Sheffield Wednesday, but who the Owls look set to miss out on.

Reading look set to beat Wednesday in this race, as per Collomosse, and that’s a blow for Sheffield Wednesday who have Championship football to offer.

It could be a sign of what’s to come for the Owls this summer as they rush around to get themselves ready for the start of the new season, which is just a few days away now.

A goalkeeper remians a priority for Shrffield Wednesday and who Munoz might turn to next remains to be seen.
