Efe Ambrose is already a big fan of one Sheffield Wednesday player.

Ambrose became the latest player to be linked with a move to Hillsborough, courtesy of Teamtalk on Monday, after engineering his release from Hibernian earlier this month.

The 30-year-old previously spent five years at Celtic, where he replaced the former Wednesday captain, Glenn Loovens, and was a teammate of the current Owls striker, Gary Hooper.

And speaking to the Daily Record in 2014, a year after the latter player had left for Norwich City, Ambrose said: “Gary is the best striker I’ve played with at Celtic.”

Hooper moved to Sheffield Wednesday in late 2015 and was an initial success at Hillsborough, scoring or assisting 41 goals in 83 Owls appearances.

But the Englishman, also 30, has not been seen at first-team level since Boxing Day 2017, and it is not known when he is likely to be fit again after undergoing surgery late last year.

Hooper’s Wednesday contract expires at the end of this season.
