Sheffield Wednesday go into their first game under new boss Danny Rohl this weekend, with a trip to Watford on the cards.
Sheffield Wednesday head to Vicarage Road to face a struggling Watford side on Saturday, with the Owls looking for their first win of the season.
And it’s a first game in charge for the 34-year-old Rohl who landed the job last week following the sacking of Xisco Munoz earlier in the month.
Fans are optimistic for the tenure of Rohl. He’s a very well-regarded coach and he’ll surely be an improvement on Munoz.
Few know what to expect from the former Southampton, RB Leipzig, Bayern Munich, and Germany assists, but EFL pundit and former striker Sam Parkin has suggested that Rohl’s Sheffield Wednesday could look similar to Hasenhuttl’s Southampton.
Rohl was appointed Hasenhuttl’s assistant at Southampton in 2018 and spent a brief time there, with that being his only experience of English football prior to his Wednesday appointment.
Parkin said on the recent episode of the What The EFL?! podcast:
“He’s got a really high pedigree. Maybe it’s going to look a little bit like Southampton under Hasenhuttl, in terms of the energy, high-level energy, pressurising from the front of the pitch. I think it’s an exciting one, and if he can be able to focus on the role, who’s to say that they [Wednesday] can’t turn their fortunes around?”
A new-look Sheffield Wednesday…
Sheffield Wednesday needed a change. They needed a new coach with new ideas and a new way of playing and Rohl certainly looks like he’ll bring that change.
And it could be expected that the Owls play similar to Hasenhuttl’s Southampton in that they’re fast-paced, high-pressing and energetic, though whether or not Rohl has the players to implement that style straight away remains to be seen.
Watford is a fairly kind opening fixture for Rohl but it certainly won’t be easy, with Watford potentially viewing this one as a good chance to get some points on the board.
