Brentford’s opening bid for the Sheffield Wednesday captain Barry Bannan was in the region of £1 million, according to Sky Sports.
Wednesday are said to have rejected the offer for Bannan, who is in the final year of his contract at Hillsborough.
But it is claimed that Brentford remain interested in signing the Scotland international and could return with an improved offer.
The Wednesday manager Garry Monk this week stated his intention to extend Bannan’s contract and eliminate any chance of him leaving for free next summer.
But given Bannan’s influence, it is possible that Wednesday will take that risk and opt to keep the 30-year-old either way.
