The Star’s Alex Miller says that Sheffield Wednesday are in ‘exploratative talks’ with a ‘handful’ of potential new signings.
The summer transfer window officially opened yesterday, marking the start of a potentially very busy summer for the Owls as they make their return to the Championship.
Sam Reed looks set to become Wednesday’s first summer signing, with the non-league full-back set to sign after a trial period earlier in the year.
But names like Jordan Storey and Chiedozie Ogbene have been linked with summer moves to Hillsborough, with the Owls in need of a big summer transfer window to ensure they have enough to be competitive next time round.
Miller also adds that the Wednesday players are set to return for pre-season training at the end of this month, and that ‘internal meetings’ are set to take place this week regarding potential new signings, with Darren Moore taking on more responsibility in player recruitment following David Downes’ departure to Blackpool.

Wednesday’s summer ahead
Downes’ departure has certainly put a slight spanner on the works for Wednesday. But Miller points out in his report for The Star that Moore is very hands-on with Wednesday’s recruitment, and that he has been since last summer.
So Downes’ move to Blackpool shouldn’t hinder Wednesday’s summer preparations too much. But work needs to start soon as the Owls are in need of plenty of players ahead of what promises to be a challenging Championship campaign.
Wednesday look set to spread their transfer business across the loan and free markets but expect them to spend a bit of money too, potentially on someone like Storey and especially if Josh Windass is sold to Southampton.
It could be a very excting summer for the Owls.
