Former Rangers and Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard is not in the running for the Sheffield Wednesday job, says Alan Nixon.
Gerrard, 43, has been linked with any and every Championship job since being axed by Aston Villa last season.
The former Liverpool and England midfielder was said to be on Leeds United’s radar and then on Leicester City’s too, but it doesn’t appear that he is – or ever has been – on Sheffield Wednesday’s managerial shortlist.
Nixon has revealed on Twitter (via Inside Futbol) that Gerrard is not a name in the running at Hillsborough. It comes after Nixon revealed earlier this week (via FLW) that the Owls have a four-man shortlist for the vacant managerial job, with Slaven Bilic among those four.
Other names to have been closely linked with the Hillsborough vacancy is another former Villa boss in Dean Smith, who is supposedly Dejphon Chansiri’s first choice manager to replace Darren Moore.

Gerrard did well at Rangers. But after losing now Rangers boss Michael Beale as his no.2 at Aston Villa, it seemingly fell apart for the Premier League legend.
But to his credit, he seems eager to get back in the dugout and it looks like he’ll have to drop down into the Championship to make that happen.
Sheffield Wednesday is a huge club and it would be an attractive opportunity for a lot of managers out there, even despite the ongoing unrest behind the scenes, though Nixon says Gerrard is not in the running.
Expect Wednesday’s managerial hunt to really heat up next week with the start of the 2023/24 Championship season quickly closing in for the Owls.
