Former West Brom and Watford boss Slaven Bilic is on Sheffield Wednesday’s managerial shortlist, according to Alan Nixon.
Sheffield Wednesday’s managerial search seems to be stepping up, with Dean Smith apparently the Owls’ first choice to come in and replace Darren Moore.
But taking to Twitter earlier today, The Sun reporter Nixon has claimed on Twitter (via Football League World) that Sheffield Wednesday are in the interviewing stage and that there are four names on their shortlist – one of them being Croatian boss Bilic.
Bilic is best known for his time in charge of West Brom. He was at the club between 2015 and 2017 winning 42 of his 111 games in charge. Since then, the 54-year-old has had spells in Saadi Arabia and China, with stints at West Brom and Watford too.
Bilic guided West Brom to promotion from the Championship in 2020 before spending a brief time in charge of Watford last season.
Bilic to take charge at Hillsborough?
Bilic definitely has the CV to take charge of any Championship club. His brief spell at Watford won’t have damaged his reputation – he remains a manager known for being very shrewd and tactically-aware and he’d no doubt be a very viable option for Wednesday.
As ever though, whether Bilic would take on the job remains to be seen. He’s very experience and respected and he might not fancy working under Dejphon Chansiri.
But then again, Bilic did take on the Watford job knowing how much the Hornets change managers, and so the Sheffield Wednesday challenge might yet be appealing to Bilic.
For now though, he’s just one of four apparent candidates in the running.
