According to a report by the Daily Mail, Sheffield Wednesday free-agent target Danny Simpson is now set to sign for Bristol City.
The right-back had been training with the Owls, and he even turned out for the U23 outfit as a trialist last week, but now it seems as though he’s set to sign for the Robins.
This move will see him reunite with his former Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson.
The Owls have been desperate for reinforcements and Simpson was one player they had in their sights alongside Ravel Morrison, and while a deal for the ex-Sheffield United midfielder could still be on the cards, it seems as though any deal to bring Simpson to Hillsborough is dead in the water.
Wednesday could do with some experienced heads in the side as they try to mount one final push to beat the drop in the Championship, and with Simpson being a three-time promotion winner, he’d have brought something of a winning mentality to the dressing room.
Unfortunately, this isn’t one that the club could get over the line and it now seems as though he’ll be heading to Ashton Gate after the international break.
Whether or not Wednesday now turn their attentions to another free-agent full-back remains to be seen, but that may be an area that Darren Moore wants to strengthen between now and the end of the season.
