Sheffield Wednesday are ‘working on a deal’ to sign Preston North End centre-back Bambo Diaby, as relayed by Yorkshire Live.
Diaby, 25, has been with Preston North End since 2022. He joined in the January following a two-year spell out of the game, with the Senegalese defender having previously been at Barnsley.
He made 17 Championship appearances for the Lilywhites last season but now it looks like he could be about to make the switch to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of the new season.
Yorkshire Live have confirmed online speculation that Diaby is a target for Xisco Munoz’s Sheffield Wednesday and that the Owls are working on a deal to bring the centre-back to Hillsborough before the transfer window shuts on September 1st.
Speaking about Diaby upon his arrival at Deepdale in January 2022, boss Ryan Lowe labelled the defender as both ‘fast’ and ‘strong’, whilst also highlighting his ability to play in a number of different positions.

Just what the doctor ordered…
Sheffield Wednesday have some decent options at centre-back in the likes of Dominic Iorfa, Michael Ihiekwe, Akin Famewo, and new boy Di’Shon Bernard, and the addition of Diaby would be another useful and another physical presence at the back.
The Championship is much more technical than League One and if Wednesday are to stand a chance then they need some players with resilience, and speed at the back, and Diaby would bring just that.
It looks like he’s certainly a prime target given Yorkshire Live’s report on the player and with Diaby looking fairly low down the pecking order at Preston, the Lilywhites could be open to doing a deal with Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls open their 2023/24 season with a home game v Southampton on Friday night, with kick off at 8pm.
