According to a report by Evening Express, Sheffield Wednesday have been priced out of a move for Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove.
The 24-year-old forward netted 47 goals in 102 games for Aberdeen, and form like that has seen him attracted interest from English sides, but Aberdeen seemingly aren’t willing to let him go cheaply.
It’s unknown how much Aberdeen were asking for for Cosgrove, but Wednesday apparently couldn’t afford to match it, so it seems as though any deal here is dead in the water.
Unfortunately for the Owls, this leaves the path open for Steve Bruce to land him at Newcastle, with The Sun reporting that the former Owls manager is keen on bringing him to St James’ Park.
Pinching a player from under the nose of Bruce would have been brilliant, not only because he’s a former Wednesday manager, but because it’s a testament to Cosgrove’s quality that a Premier League side wants him.
Sadly, it seems as though this deal is impossible for Wednesday to finance, but it is encouraging to see that the club are at least on the right track in their hunt for a striker.
If there’s one thing the squad needs right now it’s more goals, and if the new manager is going to put up a valiant fight against relegation, he’ll need a new striker through the door sooner rather than later.
