Sheffield Wednesday are set to miss out on the loan signing of Burnley defender Luke McNally, who’s agreed a deal to join Stoke City on loan, as per Football Insider.
McNally, 23, impressed on loan with Coventry City in the second half of last season, prompting a number of Championship clubs to take an interest in the Irishman ahead of next season.
But an emerging report from Football Insider has revealed that the centre-back has passed a medical with Stoke City, who’ve agreed a season-long loan deal for the Burnley man.
The same report adds that McNally also had interest from elsewhere in the Championship, including Sheffield Wednesday.
The Owls are in desperate need of some more summer signings, despite the recent arrivals of names like Pol Valentin and Di’Shon Bernard.
Despite failing to break into the Clarets’ first-team last season, boss Vincent Kompany hailed McNally as a ‘really talented’ player.

Centre-back not a pressing issue for Munoz
Xisco Munoz has a decent amount of centre-backs following the arrival of Bernard, but not too many of his options have Championship experience and so McNally would’ve been a good signing still.
But as per Football Insider, it looks like Stoke City have won the race for the Burnley man and it’ll be a solid signing for them as they rival Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship next season.
The Owls are getting some new players over the line but they still have a lot of work to do in this final month of the window – signing new players when there’s Championship games to think about though is going to be tough.
Sheffield Wednesday open the 2023/24 Championship season at home to Southampton on Friday night.
