According to a report by TeamTalk, Sheffield Wednesday are amongst the clubs keen on signing Akin Odimayo this summer.
The Swindon defender has been impressing in League One this term, playing as both a centre-half and a wing-back, and with the Owls having a number of defenders out of contract in the summer, they will need reinforcements.
Odimayo is out of contract this summer but Swindon do have a one-year option on his contract, and they would be wide to take up that option with a plethora of Championship clubs chasing his signature.
Unfortunately for the Owls, they aren’t the only side in the race for his signature with Preston, Derby and Stoke City also reportedly interested.
As much as we don’t like to say it, it’s hard to imagine Odimayo will want to sign for Wednesday if Preston, Stoke and Derby also make him offers. After all, the Owls could be playing their football in League One next term, while the other clubs in contention look likely to be playing in the second-tier once again.
Of course, there’s still the outside chance that the Owls stay up, and if they do, their chances of landing Odimayo will increase, but as we say, there’s only an outside chance of that happening.
This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on in the coming months.
