Sheffield Wednesday have identified Luke Dowling as a potential new Head of Recruitment, confirms The Star.

Last week, Football Insider reported that Sheffield Wednesday has agreed a deal to hire Dowling as their new Head of Recruitment, following David Downes’ move to Blackpool earlier this summer.

Dowling most recently served as the sporting and technical director at West Brom where he was for three years up until last year.

He’s held positions at Nottingham Forest and Watford in the past as well, and The Star have confirmed Wednesday’s interest in Dowling, saying that conversations have taken place between the club and Dowling.

But The Star’s report adds that Dowling’s prospective job title at Hillsborough remains unclear, though he would be undertaking a similar role to what Downes held in the past.

So far this summer, Sheffield Wednesday have signed Reece James from Blackpool, with Chilean international Juan Delgado thought to be the next player arriving at Hillsborough.

Owls making repairs…

Sheffield Wednesday looked like a club in crisis when Darren Moore left. But owner Dejphon Chansiri has now brought in Xisco Munoz and they’ve got a new recruitment chief in their sights, so the repairs are slowly being made.

But there needs to be repairs to the playing squad ahead of next season. Munoz needs a horde of new signings and so far, business has been very slow.

Munoz himself says that his side aren’t ready for the start of next season and so it remains a pretty perilous time for the club.

But if Dowling can come in soon then the Owls could have someone in place to oversee a potentially fruitful end of the summer transfer window.
