Sheffield Wednesday have been credited with an interest in PSG youngster Djeidi Gassama.
Reports coming out of France have linked Championship duo Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday with a move for PSG winger Gassama, who is 19 years old.
The Frenchman is a product of the PSG youth academy and has since made one Ligue 1 appearance for the club, spending time out on loan with Belgian side Eupen last season where he scored twice in 19 Belgian Pro League outings.
Gassama also grew up idolising PSG star Kylian Mbappe, previously saying:
“I watch a lot of what Kylian Mbappé does. I observe him in his travels, I take an example.”
It came at a time when Gassama was making waves in and around Europe, with a number of top teams having been linked with a move for the youngster in the past including Borussia Dortmund.
But a recent report from French outlet RMC Sport has revealed that Gassama has been told he can look for a new club this summer, and that Hull and Wednesday are both keen, along with a third, unnamed European club.
So far this summer, Sheffield Wednesday have only signed Reece James from Blackpool, with new boss Xisco Munoz yet to make any new signings of his own.
An exciting link – but how realistic?
At one point last year, Gassama was being touted as one of the most exciting youngsters in Europe. But it looks like his progression hasn’t been as quick as PSG might have hoped and now they seem keen on offloading him.
For Gassama though, a potentially exciting new chapter lies ahead. A lot of youngster test themsleves in the Championship and whilst it’s a bit make or break, it tends to make a lot more players than not.
Gassama clearly as the talent and the drive and should he join a Championship side in Sheffield Wednesday then it would be an indication of how hungry he is to make it.
It would be a very tough move for him, but a very good signing for Sheffield Wednesday should they manage to pull it off.
