Report: Sheffield Wednesday eye 33-year-old with same agent as Barry Bannan

Sheffield Wednesday are closely monitoring Lyle Taylor ahead of a possible summer move. They’re not alone in the chase for his signature with Rotherham and Millwall also eyeing the talisman.

Football League World claims that the Owls want to sign the player. Interestingly, he actually has the same agent as Wednesday captain Barry Bannan.

Taylor has fallen way down the pecking order at Nottingham Forest. He’s not played for them for well over a year and wasn’t named in their 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign during 2022/23.

The striker will be out of contract during the summer. He has absolutely no chance of a new deal at the City Ground and he will be free to move elsewhere at the end of his contract.

Why Chelsea FINALLY Turned A Corner.

Wednesday don’t know what division they will be in yet next season. They face Barnsley in the League One play-off final on Monday and the Owls will hope to return to the Championship.

Darren Moore will want some more firepower regardless of what league his team are in, however. Taylor is proven in the EFL but the fact he’s not played football for some time must come as a concern.

Taylor is well-travelled when it comes to the EFL. He’s played for several clubs, including Charlton, AFC Wimbledon, Birmingham and Wednesday’s fierce rivals Sheffield United.

Wednesday monitoring Taylor but the deal looks too risky

Surely the Wednesday faithful want the club to move away from signings of this nature. Taylor is 33 and hasn’t played a single game of football since going on loan to Birmingham at the back end of last season.

Interestingly, this could be the media putting two and two together. He has the same agent as the South Yorkshire-based club’s captain and that makes the link a little more tenable.

Firepower will likely be on Moore’s radar in the summer. If Taylor can be signed on a relatively low wage on a short-term deal then perhaps he could do a job but Wednesday should tread with relative caution.
