Sheffield Wednesday’s Yorkshire neighbours Bradford City are keen on signing released Owls man Jack Hunt this summer, as per Alan Nixon.
Hunt, 32, has 180 total appearances for Sheffield Wednesday having played for the club in two separate spells. His first spell was between 2016 and 2018 and after a spell with Bristol City, Hunt would return to Hillsborough ahead of the 2021/22 season.
He dropped down a league to reunite with the Owls and in the last two seasons, Hunt racked up 72 total appearances, with 26 of those coming in all competitions last season.
But the right-back has since been released following the expiry of his Hillsborough contract and now, Nixon has revealed on his Patreon page that Bradford City are weighing up a potential swoop for Hunt – the Bantams are managed by Mark Hughes.
Hunt may be best remembered for scoring the winning penalty in Sheffield Wednesday’s memorable play-off semi-final comeback win over Peterborough United.
Hunt to make the Yorkshire switch
There’d be no bitter feelings should Hunt join up with Bradford City after his Sheffield Wednesday exit, and if Nixon’s story is to be believed then it would be a very decent signing for the Bantams as they eye up promotion from the fourth tier.
But for Wednesday, given how perilous their summer and season ahead is starting to look, they might be ruing their decision to let Hunt leave as a free agent.
He wasn’t all that involved last time round but he’s a player with bags of experience and Championship pedigree, so he could well have done a a job for the Owls in the upcoming season.
But the club now has bigger fish to fry and plenty of work to do before the 2023/24 season starts next month.
