The Star have reported that Portuguese manager Vitor Campelos has put his name forward for the vacant Sheffield Wednesday job.
Sheffield Wednesday are without a manager after Darren Moore and the club parted ways last night.
After the initial reaction died down, some names emerged as potential replacements, with former manager Carlos Carvalhal iously-considering-move-to-bring-back-former-owls-manager-carlos-carvalhal-4189570 under consideration ahead of the 2023/24 Championship season.
But an emerging report from The Star says that Campelos, 48, has ‘thrown his name into the hat’ to replace Moore at Hillsborough.
Campelos is on the market after leaving Portuguese side Chaves at the start of this month. He’s previously worked as an assistant in Saudi Arabia and Iran before landing his first managerial job with Hungarian outfit Fehervar II in 2013.
Since then, Campelos has managed the likes of Trofense, Vitoria Guimaraes, Moreirense, Al-Taawoun, and Chaves, whom he guided to promotion from the Portuguese second tier in 2022 before achieving an impressive 7th place finish in the season just gone.
In a previous interview with Sky Sports, Campelos outlined his ambition to manage in England, saying:
“I am under pressure here because my contract finishes at the end of the season and the club wants me to renew for two years but some things can happen. I am always dreaming and I know that one day I will work in England because this is my dream.”

A potential candidate?
Campelos’ CV and situation looks very familiar – it has an air of Carvalhal about it.
Carvalhal is one of Wednesday’s best managers of the 21st Century and he was plucked from Europe despite having never managed in England before.
It was a risky appointment but it paid off, and whilst Campelos would be another risky appointment, it could be one that pulls off for the Owls.
He’s clearly got experience and he’s just done an amazing job with Chaves, so his CV speaks for itself.
If there’s no immediate candidates for the job then Campelos could be a swift appintment, and a steady bet for the upcoming 2023/24 season.
