Journalist Darren Witcoop says that former Sheffield Wednesday man Benito Carbone is keen on landing the vacant Owls job, and that Paul Ince is in no rush to return to management.
Sheffield Wednesday remain without a manager after the club and Darren Moore agreed to part ways last week.
Several names have been linked by reporters and by bookies, and the latest name to emerge is former Sheffield Wednesday attacker Carbone.
Now age 51, Carbone racked up 96 league appearances for the Owls between 1996 and 1999, scoring 25 goals before leaving for Aston Villa.
Since retiring in 2010, Carbone has held managerial positions in the lower leagues of Italy with a stint as the Azerbaijan assistant coach too, but Carbone is currently in charge of Serie E side Pavia where he is in his second stint as manager.
But he’s set to leave upon the expiry of his contract this summer and Witcoop has revealed on Twitter that Carbone is now ‘keen to land the manager’s job’ at Hillsborough.
Witcoop also adds that Ince – who is one of the bookies’ favourites for the Owls vacancy – is in no rush to return to management after leaving Reading towards the end of last season.
Carbone coming back to Sheffield Wednesday?
Carbone’s managerial CV isn’t all that impressive. But Witcoop’s tweet suggests that Carbone is only keen on returning – not that he’s necessarily under consideration for the job.
Expect Sheffield Wednesday to have been inundated with applications, but given the state of the club right now, whether there’s applications from any respectable and suitable managers remains to be seen.
Carbone was a favoured name at Wednesday during his playing career but it doesn’t seem like it’d be such an exciting or inspirational appointment ahead of next season.
