Newcastle United’s former Sheffield Wednesday loanee, Rolando Aarons, is wanted by Panathinaikos, according to SDNA in Greece.

Aarons impressed for Wednesday in the second half of last season, but missed the latter stages through injury.

And there is currently little to suggest the winger is being actively pursued by the Owls, despite calls for them to do so by some of their fans.

But Panathinaikos are said to have made contact with Newcastle, who it is claimed are willing to subside part of Aarons’ €800,000 (around £712,000) salary.

That equates to around £13,500 per week.

But Panathinaikos, whose technical director is the former Newcastle defender, Nikos Dabizas, can only afford to pay around a quarter of that, according to SDNA, and it remains to be seen whether or not an agreement can be reached.

Meanwhile, Sheffield Wednesday are closing in on a deal to sign the released Cardiff City winger, Kadeem Harris, according to The Star, once their transfer embargo is lifted by the EFL.

Like Aarons, Harris is known for his pace and dribbling ability, and can operate on either flank.

Should Sheffield Wednesday rival Panathinaikos for the Newcastle United winger?
