Sheffield Wednesday look set to seal their 10th signing of the summer in Djeidi Gassama.

The PSG man looks set to complete a switch to Sheffield Wednesday in the very near future, with The Star saying that Gassama ‘is expected to complete his switch to Hillsborough imminently’.

He’s set to sign on a free transfer and it’ll arguably be the Owls’ most exciting signing of the summer so far, with Xisco Munoz having already got nine new names over the line.

New signings are needed after seeing the Owls’ tough start to life back in the Championship – attacking signings especially with Munoz looking like he lacks a bit of pace and explosiveness in the front-line.

But Gassama should bring all of that and more, and The Star say that the 19-year-old ‘is expected to be available for this weekend’s visit of Preston’, should he be selected, that is.

Gassama to the rescue?

Gassama looks like a much-needed addition to the Wednesday front-line.

Watching videos of him, he’s clearly a player who loves to drive forward with the ball, and who can easily get past players and put a shot on target.

Munoz doesn’t have too many players like that right now and so it’s a welcome addition, but with Gassama still being so young and relatively inexperienced in terms of first-team football, Munoz will need to ease him into action.

Whether he features this weekend remains to be seen, but it certainly looks like a signing is imminent and so there’s definitely a chance that Wednesday fans see him for the first time v Preston.

And if he can hit the ground running then it’ll give everyone at the club a huge lift – at a very important time too with Wednesday having lost their opening two games of the season.
