Reports coming out of Europe are linking Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester United with a move for 15-year-old Daniel da Costa, who is apparently on the books at Sheffield Wednesday.
It’s becoming more commonplace for teams in the Premier League to snap up emerging talents in the Football League, often before these names have even had a chance to cut their teeth in the English pyramid.
And that’s the case here. An emerging report from Portguese outlet O Jogo (via Sport Witness) says that Liverpool and Manchester United are watching over the progression of da Costa, who O Jogo say ‘belongs to Sheffield Wednesday’s staff’.
The same report goes on to say that da Costa, a right winger, is ‘making waves’ in England, and that Portuguese outfit Sporting CP are also monitoring his situation ahead of the summer transfer window. Da Costa is said to idolise Portuguese legend Cristiano Ronaldo whilst also sharing some of the same playing characteristics as him.

Who actually is Daniel da Costa?
There’s no evidence of da Costa and Sheffield Wednesday online and so it’s certainly a strange link, but an interesting one nevertheless.

O Jogo’s report is somewhat vague when it comes to revealing who da Costa actually is – whether he’s a youth player in the Wednesday ranks or whether he’s a player who simply, somehow, belongs to the Owls.
But if he is Wednesday’s property then the club certainly have a decision to make here. Fending off interest from the likes of Liverpool or United will be difficult and so the Wednesday officials could look at giving da Costa some first-team exposure sooner rather than later, in the hope that it could bump up his transfer value or even tempt him into signing a professional contract at the club.
Expect to see da Costa’s name in headlines a bit more over the coming weeks and months.
