A £27 million Arsenal player has emerged as a possible alternative to Sheffield Wednesday’s Dominic Iorfa in Watford’s pursuit of a new centre-half.
The Independent claimed last month that Watford are interested in signing Iorfa, but added that a move for the 25-year-old ‘may depend upon outgoings’ at Vicarage Road.
And it seems he is not the only option for Hornets.
The Evening Standard reports that Arsenal are considering sending William Saliba on loan to a Championship club, and lists Watford as a ‘viable’ destination.
The Hertfordshire side, whose training ground is in close proximity to Arsenal’s, are said to have been interested in Saliba at the time of his move from Saint Etienne last summer.

And a loan for the teenager, who already has two full seasons of top-flight football behind him, appears to make more sense in the current financial climate than spending millions of pounds, potentially, on Iorfa, who has yet to play above Championship level.
Watford, whose own defender Craig Dawson has been linked with a £4m move to West Ham United by The Sun, have until 5pm next Friday to make their decision.
And Wednesday will perhaps hope there are no phonecalls before then from Vicarage Road.
