Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal could be about to make a surprise return to English football and to Yorkshire.

Six years after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, Carvalhal remains a favoured name among Owls fans. And his name is often found in British headlines with the latest suggestions linking Carvalhal with a return to the Football League with the currently managerless Leeds United.

Portuguese outlet eSporte have revealed that Leeds United have opened talks with Carvalhal over a potential deal for him to become the club’s new head coach following relegation from the Premier League.

Wednesday’s Yorkshire rivals have been linked with a number of potential new bosses and many of which are said to have held initial talks with the Elland Road club, with Carvalhal being the latest.

It’s since been revealed that the Whites are set to begin managerial interviews this week, with the 57-year-old Carvalhal a candidate for the position after leaving Celta Vigo over the weekend.

Carvalhal back on British shores

Carvalhal is best known for guiding Sheffield Wednesday to the Championship play-off final in 2016, and then to another play-off finish the following season.

He’s since had spells in charge of Swansea City, Rio Ave, Braga, Al Wahda, and then Celta, with Carvalhal being quite widely-regarded in the world of football management.

It’s claimed by eSporte that he could become the next Leeds United boss, and if he lands the job it will be his biggest and toughest job since he took charge of Wednesday in 2015.

The club has sky high expectations upon their return to the Football League. But there’s a number of other managers in the race, some seemingly more favoured that Carvalhal, so for the time being he seems like a contender in the race – not so much a leading one.

But his return to management would make for great viewing and if he took the Leeds job, he’d go up against Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship next season.
