Report claims Championship side have made one Sheffield Wednesday-linked player a priority target, may pass on another

One of Sheffield Wednesday’s Championship rivals have reportedly made one Owls-linked player a priority target this month.

However, it is claimed that they may choose to pass on another.

According to Bristol Live, Bristol City have joined the list of clubs chasing Lyle Taylor’s signature this month, but may have to wait until the summer to sign the Charlton Athletic centre-forward.

And the website adds that the Robins are unlikely to pursue a deal for Connor Wickham – either due to ‘injury concerns’ or because of the ‘sizeable financial obligations’ involved in loaning the Crystal Palace striker.

However, it also claims that Charlton’s attempts to sign another player said to be on Sheffield Wednesday’s radar, Jonson Clarke-Harris of Bristol Rovers, could yet have a positive effect on City’s Taylor chances.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Wednesday have offered to pay £12,000 a week towards Wickham’s wages, which is some way short of the figure Palace are seeking.

Wickham shone during two previous spells at Hillsborough and would, on paper at least, be a useful alternative to the injured Steven Fletcher in Garry Monk’s side, in terms of his ability to play as either a lone centre-forward or alongside a partner.
