Sheffield Wednesday are unlikely to sign Achraf Lazaar, reports The Star.
Lazaar, 31, is best known for his rather unsuccessful spell at Newcastle United. The Magpies signed the Moroccan on a five-year deal in 2016 but he’d only make 10 total appearances for the club, eventually leaving as a free agent in early 2021.
He then signed for Watford where he played under Owls boss Xisco Munoz, but The Star say that Lazaar – who spent time on loan at Hillsborough in the 2018/19 season and has recently been linked with a return – is unlikely to re-sign for Sheffield Wednesday this summer.
Their report adds that Lazaar ‘is a name that has been put to Wednesday as a potential option’ but that ‘any deal as it stands looks unlikely.’
Lazaar was most recently with Serie C side Novara after a two-year spell in Portgual with Portimonense.
So far this summer, Reece James has signed for Sheffield Wednesday but it looks like Munoz is close to adding a few more names to his side, with the start of the 2023/24 campaign less than a couple of weeks away.

Have the Owls dodged a bullet?
Lazaar has had a few chances in England now and he’s yet to take one of them. He failed to impress at Watford or at Sheffield Wednesday, where he racked up just four total appearances.
And as per The Star, it looks like Lazaar is certainly an option, but given his recent failings a reunion with Munoz is not looking likely this summer.
Even though Wednesday need bodies this summer, signing Lazaar doesn’t look like a very good move for the Owls and so expect the club to quickly turn their attention to other potential targets.
Free agents are what Sheffield Wednesday look limited to this summer and with the best ones being snapped up, the Owls really need to get some players in soon.
